About Echowalk

What is EchoWalk?

EchoWalk is an AI powered text-to-speech playlist with a super-simple UI to paste URLs for later listening, allowing anyone to utilise otherwise unproductive time commuting, walking, cooking, exercising, driving, etc.

How does EchoWalk work?

Simply paste URLs directly into EchoWalk.com to build a list of urls to playback later. No signup is required and the text-to-speech engine is free to use for as many URLs as you like.

No, I mean technically how does it work?

EchoWalk employs the latest AI language models to provide realistic and easy to listen to machine speech that always stays fresh. As well as ML speech models, the summary feature uses a GPT style LLM (we are experimenting with different LLMs to achieve the best results).

What can't it do?

EchoWalk AI voices cannot currently show emotion, so it's not as exciting as an audiobook read by an actual human. However, the "friendly newsreader" type voices we employ are chosen especially to make listening for an extended period of time an enjoyable experience.

No video: EchoWalk understands images in articles, but cannot currently ingest video (so YouTube, TikTok and Vimeo links etc will work). If there is enough demand for this feature we will look at how audio description software can be combined with subtitles for an optimal experience in future.

EchoWalk tries to act as a good web citizen, so we won't read from sites that explicitly dislike content being mechanically retrieved (e.g. Reddit).

What does it cost?

EchoWalk is free to use and anonymised unless you elect to create an account to synchronise between devices.

AI inference costs money to run however, so paid versions are coming that will allow unlimited summaries alongside other perks.
